John Cooper was a British racing driver who, in 1961, created a higher-performance version of the Classic Mini – the Mini Cooper. He fitted a more powerful engine, higher gear ratios, better brakes and wider tyres. He also added the now iconic colour-contrast roof to stand out in the crowd. And a few years later John Cooper boosted this version to create a pure racing car – the Mini Cooper S. The car became a racing phenomenon, winning three times at Monte Carlo and coming first place in numerous other races on the international rally circuit.
